Nintendo has recently gotten a Twitter account known as TopHatProfessor. It can be found here: www.twitter.com/tophatprofessorHere, they pretend to be Professor Layton. They post puzzles, answer puzzles, and confirm things for Layton's upcoming sequel. But, there was one other tweet that they made. Layton stated that he was off to a "Grand Smash Tournament," possibly suggesting a new Smash Bros. Game, with him as a character. Seeing as he just got a sequel, it wouldn't be surprising. He also confirmed an "electric rat" (Pikachu), and a "pink puffball" (Kirby) As well as 3 newcomers. "Blue Robot Boy" (Megaman) "Posessed Doll" (Geno) "Tiny Boxer" (Little Mac) They did just make a Punch-Out!!! Wii game and Mega Man 9, so could this be true? Those three characters are probably the most wanted characters in Brawl that didn't make it in (besides Ridley). Layton is best on the DS, so could this game be on the DS? If it's DSi-exclusive, it would sell those things like crazy. It would be a good move on Nintendo's part. Sora (the company that makes Smash) has had experience with the DS now, in the form of creating WarioWare: DiY, which is a fantastic game that allows you to create your own WarioWare games. Nintendo has also shown signs of bringing back old franchises for some reason (Punch-Out, Golden Sun DS, etc.) Are they making a fourth Smash Bros. game? Maybe. There are two problems with this. 1) How would Professor Layton fight? If anything, he should be an Assist Trophy that throws numbers at you, or something. 2) Almost everyone believes that this Twitter account is owned by Nintendo of America. Because everyone believes it, people of accepted it as true, however there is no concrete evidence that this is Nintendo. Discuss. Do you believe that this game is real? Should it be on the DS, the Wii, or the DSi? What do you want to see in the game? Can you show proof that this is Nintendo, or not? What do you think of it in general? Discuss any and all SSB4 speculation here.

Interesting thought. Dunno ho much I'd hold to it.
Personally, I don't know why they haven't made a Smash for their handhelds yet. That's just money for them that's asking to be made. Though I don't know how big of a roster a DS could hold (would depend on whether they go full 3D or use sprites), but this sounds like a console version to me for some reason. If they do make this, though, I'm holding out for some Golden Sun characters to make it into playability.
Oh, and the DS/DSi are the same core hardware, BTW. It's just a matter of what extra features they have.
FURTHER NOTE: This may be just a riddle that you're taking the wrong way, as that seems to be the purpose of the blog. We can hope otherwise, though.
EDIT: Proven false. And I quote:
"I should officially confirm this now for you all. Our Smash Bros. quips last week were merely jokes. Sorry, to raise all of your hopes!"
You're still free to speculate, though.

Well, I'm sure a super smash Bros. DS could be quite cool, but if it were announced, it would be at an important gaming event like the upcoming Tokyo gaming show thing in the fall, and would be released probably the year after. Though I honest don't know for sure.
However, one thing that bothers me about a potential handheld SSB game is the lack of an analog stick. I just never felt I could get a good grip at the game playing it with the Wiimote sideways. (not that I do play it like that) I also wonder how the Dual screens would be used. Would they also be used as part of the battle area? I mean, It makes sense, but then it would be incredibly hard to KO someone upwards on a stage like final destination. What do you guys think?

To Blivsey: Ah. I missed that. Oh well. We can still use this topic to discuss our hopes for SSB4. Also, when I said DSi-exclusive, I meant release it as DSi Ware. Then, you need to buy a DSi to play the game. A regular DS won't do it.
And now: DS vs. Wii
Fans have been wanting an official DS Smasher for years (Homebrews don't count), and now Sora has experience with it.
The whole "one game per system" argument stating that there cannot be a Wii game is wrong. There's only one Mario 3D game per system (64, Sunshine, Galaxy) and they are breaking that with Galaxy 2.
The last DS Smashing game was years ago. (Jump! Ultimate Stars!, which is a Japan-only DS game that is essentially the same thing as Smash, but with Anime/Manga characters (like Luffy, Naruto, Goku, etc.) instead of VG characters) It's so old that we need an update.
All of that said in favor of the DS, I actually lean towards the Wii.
They could fit so much more on a Wii game disk than a DS game cartridge, plus they have so much more experience on the Wii than the DS.
Additionally, Wii games are more expensive so Nintendo makes more money. (And this is a corporate world, so everything comes down to marketing and money)
My hopes for SSB4:
1) A good online (Brawl was Crap) 2) No random tripping, but tripping is still possible via Banana Peel, etc. (C'mon. That just killed Brawl for me) 3) Alternate character costumes (Mario to Dr. Mario, Samus to Dark Samus) 4) All 493 pokemon in poke balls (Pokeball is actually 2 words in the Smash world) 5) Ridley as a playable character 6) At least 50 Assist Trophies 7) Downloadable content (Event Matches...please?) 8) No Friend Codes (unlikely) 9) Voice Chat or WiiSpeak 10) No Meta Knight (except like as a Sticker or something) 11) If on the DS, use 2D sprites, like Jump! Super Stars! and Jump! Ultimate Stars! did. (There are actually 2 Flash games online that are made Smash Bros. in 2D that aren't that bad (particularly the 2nd one), so Nintendo should learn from that if they choose to release it for the DS or DSi. Nintendo, if you are reading this, you can find them at http://www.mcleodgaming.com.)

I know that they could do so much more with the Wii, but I would personally like a DS smasher more, just for the sake of having it be portable. Being able to do multiplayer on bus/car rides or when you're away from your Wii would be quite nice, in my opinion. Oh, and they would never put a major game like that on DSi-ware. It would alienate way too much of their base.
As for your money-based argument, there is already a Wii Smash game. Many people would be happy with the first one and opt out of buying another because it would be unnecessary. There is no similar title on the DS, however, causing that to stand out more and therefore sell better. The price difference would only be about $15, anyway.
Some of your hopes for a Smash 4 are rather outlandish. Having that many available Pokémon, for instance, would be pointless and take up way too much memory. How would you change the online portion to make it better? And why in the world would they get rid of Meta Knight? If it's about balance, just power him down a bit. He's a good character. Downloadable content already exists, by the way. Downloadable event matches would be slightly unnecessary, IMO.
I'm sure that you would adapt to a new control scheme on the DS if you really wanted to play it, corn. And who says that the Touch Screen needs to be used for anything? It could be used as a status screen or something. DS games aren't required by law to use it, in fact, many games do well with hardly using a second screen at all (note Pokémon, Chrono Trigger, etc.)

If you think my hopes are high, you should see what people on SmashBoards are coming up with (300+ characters? Come on).
I can see why there wouldn't be 493 pokemon. That was just desperate. But the others are likely:
1) A good online (Brawl was Crap)
They have since revolutionized the Wii's online in the form of Mario Kart Wii.
2) No random tripping, but tripping is still possible via Banana Peel, etc. (C'mon. That just killed Brawl for me)
Nobody likes it, so I don't see why they'd keep it, but then again, they kept Coin Mode, and a Vertical Scrolling Stage (Icicle Mountain/Rumble Falls)
3) Alternate character costumes (Mario to Dr. Mario, Samus to Dark Samus)
They did Wario already...
4) All 493 pokemon in poke balls (Pokeball is actually 2 words in the Smash world)
Unlikely, but hopeful.
5) Ridley as a playable character
That tweet (which is false, but assumed true when I wrote this list) stated that MegaMan and Geno were in, and those were the ones who were wanted in Brawl, but didn't make it. Ridley fits that description perfectly.
6) At least 50 Assist Trophies
How many were in Brawl? 27? 29? Something like that. At that point, you may as well have none. Assist Trophies turned out to be a huge disappoint. One neat idea would be a sub-item switch where you can turn on/off certain assists or pokemon.
7) Downloadable content (Event Matches...please?)
This is possible on the Wii (Guitar Hero) and the DS (Almost every Yu-Gi-Oh! game), so why not? That could keep us going forever.
8) No Friend Codes (unlikely)
Nobody likes them, but Nintendo seems in love with them. Once again. Unlikely, but hopeful.
9) Voice Chat or WiiSpeak
WiiSpeak was announced just after Brawl's NTSC release. I was praying that it would be backwards compatible, but I guess not. WiiSpeak would make Brawl's online so much better.
10) No Meta Knight (except like as a Sticker or something)
If they were to weaken MK, they would have to do so greatly to even get him close to balanced. He had strong attacks, strong speed, strong recovery, etc. Most good MK players don't lose except to another one of their own kind. He is so close to getting banned from tournaments (as a Guest pointed out in the Ask the Chars thread). It wouldn't surprise me if he did get banned after the Genesis tournament. No character in the history of Smash as ever been banned before. Even Fox in Melee had some things you could do to counter him. MK does not.
11) If on the DS, use 2D sprites, like Jump! Super Stars! and Jump! Ultimate Stars! did.
If you have played either of those games, you'll know how fun it is (especially if you're an anime fan). Of course, it is hard to unlock things if you cannot read Japanese. However there is a fan translation for those of you who illegally use emulators and ROMs. (I just read Japanese. Fear my bilingual abilities.) For those who don't, you can buy My Japanese Coach or something. :-P
Oh. And there is no rule that says we can't have high hopes.
Finally, is there any way to change the title of this thread to "Official SSB4 Speculation Thread" or something like that? I know MC probably has to do it (as an admin). Is there any way we can contact him? (I'd PM him on SPPf, but I don't have an account there, and my parents won't let me get one.) Can I get a Serebii member to do this for me?
Please and thank you.

I guess so. Mario kart DS makes me confident they can do so. Did it really "kill" Brawl for you? It honest rarely occurred to me, it only happened to players who were too reckless when making sharp turns (that is how I believe it occurs) Indeed, we need more characters like Jigglypuff (in terms of costumes, if you know what I mean) That would be...kinda hard. I mean, it'd be nice, but what would be the point of putting in 50 or so pokemon that all do more or less the same attack, like water gun? Still, there are some pokemon not used yet that I'd like to be used, such as Donphan and whailmer. (I had this funny idea that Whailmer could drop from the sky, and then just stay beached on the battlefield for a while ) I honestly think Nintendo really wanted to do this in Brawl, but just found that they couldn't because he was too big, etc. and made it up to us by making him a boss 2 times (if you play against Omega ridley in Metroid Prime 3, you know what I mean). So most likely no. I personally found the amount of assist trophies enough in Brawl. And like I said for pokeballs, we don't want several characters that do more or less the same thing. (Also, I mind you, the DS has about the power of the N64, so it can't do too much.) That would be quite awesome! I'd like it so, but it's unlikely Nintendo will change. Sure. I'd like using the headset on the DS. (It could come bundled with it, like with pokemon diamond, etc.) I never found him that overpowered. Honestly, I rarely used him because his attacks I found inflicted little damage. And I think people find him too cool to be kicked out. Well, if they kinda do it with Mr. Game & Watch, then I guess so.

The "no Friend Codes" thing is literally impossible. Nintendo's Online doesn't have any way to single out certain people/consoles for you to play against except for by Friend Codes. To eliminate them, you'd have to change the way the WFC works itself, which for one is too late to do on any large scale since the console is already out and running strong, and for two the complaint there is not with the game but rather with Nintendo's online service in general.
Some of these things would be nice to add, I agree. I doubt that we'll be able to get too many of them, but it'd be nice, yes.
Honestly, I agree with cornbr3d in the thought that there are plenty of Pokéball options and Assist Trophies already, and adding any more would end up with repeats. I do like your idea of an option to enable/disable certain Assist Trophies and Pokéball options, though. I've been wanting that for some time (play practically stops when a Nintendog comes out).
I hold that Meta Knight should be weakened at most. He's a strong character, sure, but if you're serious about tournaments, just ban 'im. Or do you suggest that Legendary Pokémon shouldn't exist, either?
Personally, more than these, I would like to see the elimination of "clones". Ganondorf desperately needs to be made into a unique character, and Falco/Wolf need to be given their own movesets (and Wolf could be outed entirely for all I care). Oh, and Toon Link was kinda unnecessary. I'd like to see a more original character if they must keep 4 LoZ slots in the roster, even if it is just giving him different items/attacks.

To Cornbr3d: Yes. Tripping killed it for me. I rarely play the game for that reason. I think different characters have different odds of tripping. Luigi seems to trip a lot. One of my first brawls ended in a loss because I tripped into a Snake Side Smash. Oh. And if Ridley's size is an issue, look at Bowser or Olimar. Their sizes are exaggerated. Sadly, I've never played a Metroid game, but Ridley just looks bada**.
To Blivsey: Poke balls aren't used in tourneys, so Legendary Pokemon are kinda banned. And, if they removed clones, that's like 10 characters gone. People would complain that there are too few characters. With clones, people don't complain. They have entirely different playstyles. I played Marth for a while in Melee, and then one day I decided to try out Roy for a while. Whole different character. Same with Falcon/Ganondorf, and the other clones. Also, they may release this on DSi ware. It would sell DSis. Releasing it on the Wii or the DS won't sell those, because people already have them. Not too many people have the DSi. Only 2 of my friends do, I dunno about you.
To both: The Poke Ball thing was a bit too much to hope for, but then again, pretty much everyone's hopes are high for this game. But, with ATs, I bet they could easily include 50. One of you brought up the DS's computer power, but there is no proof that this will be on the DS (or if it even will exist for that matter). I made my speculations hoping for a Wii game. They could do much better there. That's just how you play Smash. Although, a DS could serve as a fifth controller. (You can connect in Pokemon Battle Rev. Why not here?) It is definitely a much better controller than a Wii Remote could ever be. (B to Shield? Up to Jump? A to Taunt? Geez. (I can't even customize it to make it half-decent.)) I would still likely use a GCN controller though.
Quite frankly, this thread is pointless now that Blivsey has proven that tweet false. We can still use it to discuss our SSB4 hopes though. You've heard mine. What are yours?

I'm talking about Legendary Pokémon in the terms of the main Pokémon series.
I said nothing about removing clones, by the way. I'm spoke of altering the characters by giving them their own, original movesets.
Forcing us to buy the DSi to play such a game would be a stupid move. They'd have a much wider range of potential buyers for the game by offering it on the DS. Offering it as a DSi exclusive would probably not sell many consoles by itself. Poor move.
...
And then Blivsey realized that he was wasting his time on the internet, arguing about a video game that didn't exist. He then went out and reminded himself of his social life. [/SARCASTICCOMMENTARY]

Well, people do disrespect you in the competitive scene if you use Legendary Pokemon. Those are "ubers." If you go to competitive sites with those, no one will battle you. Same with Wynaut/Wobbuffet and (currently in debate) Garchomp.
So, in a way, Legendary Pokes are banned.

Exactly. Banned, but not removed from the game entirely. Why should this be any sort of different?

If this game ever exists, it will not be on the DS. There is just too awkward of a control system. The D-Pad would obviously move your character. This limits you to 4 directions instead of 8, because it is so painful to try to use diagonals on a D-Pad. You probably double-tap to dash, so therefore you cannot dash dance. Up will likely be jump, and nobody really liked Tap Jumps (Jumps may be X and Y, but I think not, as will be explained later). A and B will be your Standard and Special attacks, but what will we do for smash attacks? We need something with direction, and the only option for that is the D-Pad, so let’s assume that X changes your D-Pad into a C-Stick. L and R are shields. Start would pause. That leaves us with two buttons: Select and Y. However, there are still 3 functions left to fill: Grab, Taunt, and Jump. Y would probably grab and Select would taunt. (If they keep the “multiple taunts” thing, then I suppose you would need to use the D-Pad for that too, and well, ugh.) This configuration leaves nowhere for jumping except by using tap jumping. It would be horrible. However, this is using nothing but buttons. The DS does have a touch screen, and a microphone, so how do we use those? The touch screen is limited to only one touch at a time, so we can’t just have a picture of a GameCube controller and operate it. The touch screen essentially just becomes an extra button. You cannot use it to jump, because then you have to lift your favorable hand off of the buttons, leaving you totally exposed every time you want to jump. You could have X be jump, and then just flick the touch screen in the direction that you want to smash in, but once again, you are exposed. (If you use your left hand to write, it becomes even worse.) Bottom line: the touch screen may not be used. What about the mic? No. It looks silly to scream into your mic, “Jump! Dodge! Down Smash! Move left! Throw item!” Plus, your mic could pick up your friend’s voice, plus the DS has bad voice recognition, plus your opponent gets to hear everything you’re doing. It doesn’t work. Can you suggest a better DS control system?

D-Pad = Move A = Standard Attack B = Special Attack X = Taunt Y = Grab L = Shield/Dodge R = Jump Start = Pause Select = Taunt (secondary)
Any problems with this? I even ended up with "Select" as a button with no use, so I made it a secondary taunt.
If they wanted to put the game on the DS, though, I'm sure that they would find a way to make it work. Nintendo has people that are paid to figure out this stuff.

Yes there are problems!
1) How do you Smash Attack? 2) You'd have to double tap to dash, which means you cannot dash dance. 3) It is incredibly difficult to move diagonally, which basically limits you to 4 directions instead of 8.
BTW, I'd like to add to my list of hopefuls for this game.
12) Neku Sakuraba for SSB4! 13) Do not put it on the DS. 14) The ability to customize your controls, so it doesn't look like my previous post.
